WordPress.com will offer .Blog domain extensions for websites

Have you ever felt like your personal website just doesn’t look like a “blog” enough? Popular website hosting service WordPress.com intends to change that, announcing on Thursday that .blog domain extensions will be available to internet users later this year.

“Just like .com before it, .blog is clean and accessible, and it creates millions of new options for naming your blog,” WordPress.com said Thursday in an online statement.

Blog domains are up for grabs this year, and anyone interested can register to be notified when they become available to the public.

WordPress.com offers the domain extension “to any website,” and those interested won’t need a WordPress or WordPress.com site to purchase one, the statement said.

Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, has secured the rights to the .blog domains, which people can purchase from WordPress.com or through their partner domain registrars.

“With a top level domain like .blog, you can get a name that really matches your identity,” WordPress.com said in its statement.

Registration prices for .blog domains are still being finalized, the company said, but they will be “in the standard range for new top-level domains with higher prices for higher-value names.” .
