AMR puts its new global Top 20 ranking in context

Consulting in event and media strategy AMR International recently released its annual global ranking of the 20 best exhibition organizers based on the skewed market of 2020. This year’s ranking provided a glimpse into a very different world, although Informa Markets and RX (Reed Exhibitions) have always led the way.

The graph above attempts to put these results in context, however, with a direct comparison to the 2019 revenue figures.

Partner at AMR International Florent Jarry, tells GE: “2020 has been an exceptional year due to the disruption of Covid-19; the organizers were impacted to varying degrees depending on their exhibition calendar and geographic exposure.

“Among the Top 20 AMRs, there was an average decrease in revenues of 56% in 2020 compared to 2019. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) was the only entrant to record an increase in revenues, thanks to the holding of the CES before any restriction in the US. Elsewhere in the world, the China Foreign Trade Center (CFTC) (-17%) and Dmg events (-34%) performed relatively well.

“The hardest hit organizers in the Top 20 were Koelnmesse, RX, Emerald Expositions and Fiera Milano, all with a turnover decline of over 70%.

AMR International also provides a more in-depth analysis of the global exhibition industry in its Globex Annual Report, which is a more definitive data set and forecast for the industry. Globex 2021 will be released in November.
